Talking with a Texas State Representative

10/17/2022

Last week on Wednesday I had a research interview with Representative Jared Patterson. This was my second interview and my interview so far with the highest level politician which made me very nervous. I normally am good at speaking with people but for this interview I was very nervous at the beginning. I made sure to leave my house extra early which was a good thing because I could not find the entrance to the building for a good while. Once I was in I was shaking in my seat across from the representative. I stated to ask him questions and things went better. He did his best to make the atmosphere less tense which was very nice. I asked him about his best achievements, how he got to where he was, and what his future goals were. Then he gave me advice about what he believes I should do. That advice was to join a campaign, for any person of any party, to gain some experience and make connections. He told me campaigns always need volunteers and that it would be something that I would surely be able to be a part of. The interview was very beneficial as being told how to start when I go into real politics was something that will greatly help me.
